Your tax dollars support groups who are responsible for the bag ban.
What's the cost of purchasing kitchen garbage bags for the rest of your life?
The Toronto Taxpayers Coalition is gearing up to launch a legal challenge to the bag ban bylaw. This is a significant undertaking, one that is sure to test the strength of our volunteer-run organization.
The potential costs and the time involved in this is monumental, running into the thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars.
We've taken on union bosses, but this is shaping up to be our toughest battle yet.
Unlike Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA) and other groups pushing for the ban, we aren't funded by union bosses and we don't receive government subsidies. Yes, you read that right - the groups who have been advocating for a ban are supported by your tax dollars.
We know it's frustrating to have your taxes raised time and time again only to support groups that push for things you don't support. You don't support them morally, so why are you being forced to support this financially?
The truth is, it's difficult to defeat something your tax dollars support, but we're working our hardest to do just that. But this is an uphill battle, and we need you now more than ever.
We don't accept government funding. We are funded by private donors like yourself. If everyone reading this donated $20 or even $50, we would be well positioned to take this fight as far as we need to in order to have the bag bylaw overturned.
