Candidates Take Part In Lively Debate In Etobicoke-Lakeshore

This article discusses an all-candidates debate hosted by Toronto Taxpayers Coalition.

The two frontrunners identified in a new poll in the byelection race in Etobicoke-Lakeshore participated in a lively all-candidates debate Thursday night.

The event, moderated by John Tory, allowed the six candidates in attendance the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions on a number of topics, including transportation, infrastructure, health care and fiscal management to the crowd of roughly 250 in attendance.

Councillors Apologize To City Manager

Two Toronto city councillors who were heavy-handed in their criticism of the City Manager have been found in violation of the Code of Conduct.

In a report published yesterday, Integrity Commissioner Janet Leiper noted Councillors Mike Layton and Adam Vaughan had since apologized to City Manager Joe Pennachetti, and does not recommend further disciplinary action.

Layton And Vaughan Violated Code Of Conduct: Integrity Commissioner

Two city councillors violated the code of conduct when they condemned a casino report from city manager Joe Pennachetti in April, the integrity commissioner has found.

Councillors Mike Layton and Adam Vaughan both strongly criticized the report from Pennachetti in comments to the media after its release on April 8, with Vaughan saying there was “nothing real in the report” and that it was “fantasy” and Layton calling it a “fictional report.”

The city’s integrity commissioner is spanking Councillors Adam Vaughan and Mike Layton for publicly slamming city officials who penned a report on casinos.

Integrity Commissioner Janet Leiper ruled Wednesday that Vaughan and Layton breached council’s code of conduct.

Since both apologized to City Manager Joe Pennachetti during the investigation, she’s recommending council take no action next week.

Adam Vaughan and Mike Layton violated Toronto’s code of conduct for councillors when they harshly criticized an April casino report from the city’s top bureaucrat, the integrity commissioner says.

Vaughan and Layton have apologized to city manager Joe Pennachetti, integrity commissioner Janet Leiper wrote in reports released Wednesday. She is not recommending any further sanction.
