Privatize Garbage Pickup In Toronto

Whereas in the 2010 municipal election, four of the five main mayoral candidates endorsed privatizing garbage in one way or another;

Whereas a C.D. Howe Institute study released in September 2010 found Toronto could save $49 million annually by contracting out garbage collection;

Whereas the city’s current unionized workers would be able to compete for tendered contracts;

We the undersigned urge city council to endorse private garbage pickup in Toronto and to implement it at the earliest time possible.
