Toronto Taxpayers Coalition is hosting an all-candidates debate in Etobicoke Lakeshore. This debate, believed to be the first in any of the 5 provincial byelections called for August 1st, is going to set the stage for a campaign that sees two City Councillors vying to become one of Toronto’s newest Members of Provincial Parliament.
“This particular byelection is going to set the tone for the future of relations between City Hall and Queen’s Park” noted Matthew McGuire, president of the coalition. “This event will set the tone for the rest of the campaign.”
While the group is Toronto’s only right-leaning organization, the coalition prides itself on hosting events that allow voices from all sides of the debate to participate. Past events have included public sector union bosses, labour professors, city councillors, a former Toronto city manager, report authors, radio hosts, and journalists as panelists.
McGuire noted John Tory’s participation as moderator demonstrates the Toronto Taxpayers Coalition’s reputation for holding balanced panel events is well deserved. “John is well respected for being fair in his pursuit of furthering the public discussion. The feedback from all parties has been 100% positive.”
